Cathedral Eye Clinic – Part-time Optometrist
Join one of Northern Ireland’s leading private eye hospitals. Cathedral Eye Clinic is expanding its team and is seeking a part-time Optometrist to join our specialist service. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside some of the island of Ireland’s leading ophthalmic surgeons, within a highly specialised environment focused on delivering outstanding patient care across cataract, refractive and other ophthalmic services.

Due our continued growth, Cathedral Eye Clinic is seeking an Optometrist to join our Belfast team. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your clinical expertise, gain exposure to advanced ophthalmic procedures, and work alongside a highly skilled, supportive team.
Your key responsibilities would be:
- Working as part of a team of Optometrists, performng pre-operative and post-operative patient assessments.
- Collaborating with Consultant Ophthalmologists across a range of subspecialities, including refractive, retinal and corneal.
- Developing advanced clinical skills through mentorship from world class Ophthalmologists.
- Utilising state of the art Optometric equipment to perform and interpret advanced ocular imaging and scans.
- Supporting clinical research activities, working alongside our Research Optometrist to collect and analyse patient data.
- Managing patients’ eye conditions independently and as part of the wider Cathedral Eye Clinic multidisciplinary team.
- Some Optometrists may be required to work within Speciality Dry Eye, Medical Contact Lens and Glaucoma Clinics.
- Working closely with our administrative and nursing teams to deliver an exceptional patient experience.
- Conducting eye wellness assessments at health screening and outreach events alongside Optical Assistant and nursing colleagues.
- Taking a proactive approach to continuous professional development and clinical growth.

The Person:
Essential Criteria
- Qualified Optometrist registered with the General Optical Council (GOC).
- Independent Prescribing (IP) qualification or currently undertaking training towards this qualification.
- Demonstrated commitment to delivering high-quality, safe patient care.
- Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Commitment to clinical governance, quality improvement, and professional development.
Desirable Criteria
- Previous experience working within a private ophthalmology or refractive setting. All refractive training will be provided in-house.
- Experience managing a range of ocular conditions within an extended clinical role.

- Part-time hours of work:
2 days per week, based on working Tuesday and Wednesday (15 hours)
1 to 2 Saturdays per month
There will be an opportunity to increase these hours as they become available
