Job Title: Optometrist

Location: JM MacDonald Opticians, Portree, Isle of Skye, Scotland

Duncan and Todd Group are looking for a Resident Optometrist for our JM MacDonald Opticians practice in Portree on the Isle of Skye, in the beautiful Scottish Highlands.

The practice has been open since 2012 and with strong relationships within the community, local business, schools and the medical centre, it is a busy practice which caters to its loyal patient base and to the bustling tourist trade. Every day is unique with the chance to meet people from all over the world. Living on the island has a relaxed feel, with many restaurants, bars and outdoor activities. The practice itself is only a short walk to the picturesque Cuillin Hills, a favourite amongst hill walkers.

The team dynamic is a large part of the branch’s success. From starting as a team of two in 2012, there are now five team members, including two Receptionists and two Dispensers. The Dispensers include Janet, the Practice Manager, and a school leaver from the local high school who is currently in her 3rd year of the ABDO course for Ophthalmic Dispensing.

In 2018, the team were finalists in the Practice Growth category at the Optician Awards, and the business has continued to invest in the practice following this achievement. In September 2018, a major refit took place; the practice now boasts two test-rooms and facilities for glazing. Along with the new look and enhanced facilities, we have updated the equipment to all the latest testing equipment with a phoropter refraction system, Ocular Coherence Topographer and a new visual fields machine. We have also introduced Audiology into the practice to further increase the services we can offer to our patients.
