Acute Red Eyes – Whistle-stop tour for community optometrists

This lecture will take walk through the area of acute red eyes. Most red eyes are mild and fairly harmless in nature, but as a colleague once said to me, there isn’t always such a thing as a straight forward red eye! They can be indicative of a serious underlying ocular or general health condition.

This lecture will aim to provide a useful clinical overview of the more common and less serious causes of red eye, and the more serious ‘red-flag’ conditions. It will offer useful guidance on how to differentiate between these conditions and how to manage these from the perspective of community optometry.

Acute Red Eye Case Discussion

Following on from the theme of the lecture, the speaker will present a range of red eye cases, ranging from more minor everyday cases to more rare and serious cases. This will be very informal and offer delegates a chance to discuss the clinical findings, try to arrive at a diagnosis, and how they would manage these in practice and with onward referral as required.

Confirmation of CET will follow soon.
